46 degrees and overcast. It’s chilly, chilly outside. Took Sis to the college this morning and saw her adviser, so she could choose her classes. It’s hard to believe I’ll have 2 kids in college this year. It’s really hard to believe how OLD I am! LOL! Oh well…They have done so much better than I did and that’s a huge relief!

Today must be Cardinal Day - they were everywhere when I pulled into the driveway!

and now we’re back home (not a warm, sunny place).

So, we know that we want to avoid milk from rBGH injected cows. Now we have this : ‘Dairy Cows Head to Slaughter As Milk Prices Soar’. For some reason, I don’t think anyone will be asking if they’ve been injected before they enter the food supply.

I’ve been browsing the Internet today, trying to avoid my English paper rewrite. While visiting some of the sites I like to frequent, I’ve gotten pretty aggravated about one of my pet peeves. Genetically engineered food is a big gripe of mine. It’s just crazy that people are allowed to play around with the foods they offer to consumers and the government doesn’t think they need to inform the public. I’m not going to harp on it right now, but I wanted to mention this little fact that some people might not be familiar with : genetically modified ice cream could be in your freezer. Snow fleas , fish , pig hooves ; they could all be hiding in your ice cream right now. Yum!

Okay, I’ve had enough. Time for spring so I can try out my container gardening!

We have trees and lines down all over the county. Some people have been without electric since around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. It was a real mess yesterday, but our police and other emergency people did a great job. Huge trees are uprooted and limbs are broken off everywhere. I don’t think it was a tornado because everything just seems to have been blown straight over. The radio says there were no injuries which should make us all very thankful considering the damage everywhere.

I can’t wait until the weather straightens up.

It’s been a while since I last posted, but I just can’t seem to find any free time lately. It seems like the weather’s been bad for way too long now. Most of Kentucky’s had it bad for the past couple of weeks, but we’ve been lucky. We haven’t lost the electric for more than 30 minutes at a time and I’ve been very thankful for that. We’ve had a lot of rain down here and a lot of snow and I’m really ready for it to warm up.

Sunday it was 65 degrees and we were walking the track in t-shirts. Monday we had 2 inches of snow by noon.  Today’s really been crazy. We had real, honest to goodness, beautiful snow! Like Ohio snow! 2 inches today! Blowing in every direction! It snowed then melted some, snowed then melted some more. The world’s nice and crunchy out there now and my weather thingy’s reading 13 degrees.

Snowball Dance

Last night, my oldest daughter attended her final Snowball Dance at the high school. We found a beautiful dress at a reasonable price and it was perfect for her. She was gorgeous! Her boyfriend is a sweetie and that in itself is such a pleasant change!

It’s hard to believe she’ll be graduating this year. For some reason it’s feeling different than it did last year when my son graduated. I was so excited to see him graduate and go on to college, but all of a sudden I’m feeling goofy about her doing the same.

I’ve been plowing through all of this college stuff for months, trying to decide what I’m taking and get everything situated. I had so many questions that nobody but I could answer. Do I want to enroll in a University, College, or a Technical School? Do I want to get an Associates Degree or a Diploma? Will I enroll in online classes or traditional?

Luckily, in our area, we have access to several different institutions for higher learning. After a little investigating, I had my choices narrowed down to two. I could attend a branch of the same University my son is enrolled in or I could enroll in the local Community College.

I must admit, the University had the most appeal. My boy goes there! My daughter will go there too! It’s a “University”! So, I started comparing the two. Both had the same programs I was interested in. Both had evening classes and online classes through the same outlet. So, how did I decide?

It turned out to be relatively easy. The only real difference I could find in the two choices, was the cost. I decided that 12 credit hours (full-time) was the most I could handle along with working and the kids. The University would cost me over $3000 while the Community College would only charge $1452. For me, in my position, a no-brainer. I chose the Community College and I’m definitely getting more bang for my buck!

So, if you’re thinking about college be sure to check with your local community college. It might just save you a bunch of money!
