Most of you have heard about Google. But I bet most never knew how Google got it’s name. It is a play on the word Googol.
According to Wikipedia, a googol is the large number 10100, that is, the digit 1 followed by one hundred zeros (in decimal representation).
Just for fun Google yourself and see what you see!

Web Design “Eco” Color Palettes!
- October 14th, 2008
- 9:39 am
How to narrow down eco-color choices, or any other color choices, either for web, print or any medium where color palettes need to be defined.
Most of the tools I have listed below are for web based hexidecimal color codes, but many of these can be used to help with room decorator colors, yarn color combinations, and many other material matching systems. There is even a tool that allows you to upload a photo and it will match the colors with the photo. Others will let you pick a hue or color and it will auto select compatible colors. Here is a list of just a few: Colorpicker.com, Colorschemer.com, ColorPaletteGenerator, ColorCombos.com, WebsiteColors.com, ColorCalculator, ColorBlender.com, ColorHunter.com, PaletteMan.com, InstantColorSchemes.
Much thought goes into the theory of color and there are many documented articles on the psychology of color and how color influences someone to buy or not to buy. As a web designer, I am very aware of how color affects the end user. I also want to make sure that l choose link colors and link rollover colors that affect the information flow of the design and how each color used in the design interacts with another.
Next, I will dabble with accessibility color issues…you CAN color outside the lines!

Puzzled about “Green” Web Searches?
- October 8th, 2008

It’s not easy being green! Puzzled about where to search for “green” products? For starters, try Yahoo Search. Not really interested in eco-friendly products but want to search “green”, click here. (Ha, ha, it’s really Google search only in colors!) Try the Google Store for their green products and Amazon.
My Computer is going “Green”!
- September 26th, 2008
- 9:00 pm
I was curious when I first heard about “Green” websites and computers going “Green”. Now come on…hardware can’t be eco friendly? Can it? As it turns out, yes. There’s a product called the “Eco-Button” which places your computer in stand-by or sleep mode which in turn saves electricity. My community has an electronic recycling program for outdated equipment, printers, computers. Is your website hosted with a “green” company and saving resources for the future? Is your computer eco friendly? Recycle that old monitor! Go Green!
