 On The Fly~

Recently I was getting ready to take a trip out of the country and knew I would have to unfortunately do my work “On the Fly”. I asked my IT person what they suggested I look into for either free or a small fee for access my main computer from my laptop while traveling. His suggestion was quite simple, a website called “Log Me In”.

I did a “Free Trial” of the Pro version just to get a feel for it. I liked it and it seemed simple. Without any further questions, I signed up for a year $69.95. This worked out to around $5.85 a month. You can’t beat that for never forgetting a file, folder or email. The convenience versus the cost is a “win-win” situation.

When I signed up I was not sure of how to do file transfers, looking at my files, etc. so I called the technical support team, spoke to the gal there and she just simple had me log in with her and she walked me through my computer and laptop (she was on both with me showing me where, how and when to do what I needed to do).

I am so excited about this relatively cheap version of a server that I wanted to share with others who also may be needing this type of service but think they cannot afford it and more so than won’t be able to do it themselves. If I can do this, anyone can.

 Tips for Organizing

2009 brings about the daunting task and empty promises of getting organized in my office. Sounds oh too familiar right?

My list is long and my completion side is meager…..fix one area and create another problem somewhere else. When does it all get organized? I guess one thing at a time!

Here is a little bit of info; hope it helps.

How about the drawer that has the most cords you have ever seen. Ones for the MP3, digital camera, cell phone, etc. Well I am in that lets get organized mode so I start surfing (takes away some of the monotony of getting organized, a little trip down Internet Shopping Alley)
I found these plastic clamps that fit on the cords. Great. You get a set of 10 plastic clamps for About $3. Each one of these clamps come with a 2-inch flat surface providing space to jot down with a marking pen what each is for. WOW. I can do that.

Another group I have found and used are the color coded plastic cord ties. Just write what you are wrapping and storing. It also works for those cords attached to your computer and beyond. You know that scary space behind your desk……these were about $4 and you again write with a marker what you have attached it to. Pretty simple but effective.

Did that, done that and now one thing is checked off the list……shall I keep going. How about you?

4 Tips for Safe Online Buying

1. Buying online isn’t only convenient, it’s also cheaper. Purchasing supplies—whether it is office items, computer programs, or gifts—should be sweat free and fast. Prices are available online. All transactions are done in real time.

2. To see is to believe. Because you’re dealing with a seller on the Internet, you need to be more vigilant. Don’t make rush decisions. Whatever you are ordering, ask about their guarantee and return policy. Some companies may charge you for this; others may not. But it helps to make sure you are buying a quality product than to be duped.

3. Do your homework. Buy only from certified sellers who have a good reputation. If you are looking into buying office supplies from a fairly new company, do your research. What are the complaints about this supplier and its services?

4. Sleep on it. As with any other decisions, whether in life or business, it pays to think it over. If your chosen supplier is legitimate, he will have no problem waiting for you to make up your mind. You don’t want a bogus supplier running away with your money in a wink.

Finding the right supplier for your replacement ink, laser and fax cartridges may take a little more time, especially if it is your first time purchasing online but the results will definitely be worth it. Or you can save time, money and peace of mind and visit the website of Printer Products Etc. a reputable and trust worthy business. Visit Now.

The other day I was watched “On the Money” on CNBC with Carmen Ulrich and she had a guest on her show talking about credit card debt. The guest was, Mary Hunt the founder of DebtProofLiving.com.

I wanted to share a quote she uses about credit cards and their Information and Coverage pamphlets that we receive and generally throw away once we get our credit cards. Her quote is: “What Big Print Giveth, Small Print Taketh Away” The moral is; take a few minutes and read that fine print.

An example I had happen to me was; I was traveling in Mexico and used my credit card to make a purchase of a time share (I did not carry checks and that was my only means of payment). I did not know that international purchases are subject to a “Currency Conversion Fee”. It came at a price of $200.00 extra added to that purchase. All I had to do was read the “f i n e p r i n t ” and that would never have happened.

Just thought I would share this little tidbit…….”Knowledge is power”

The start of a new year always gets me looking for ways to get organized for the coming year. It requires me to look online and I just found a site that looks like a keeper if you have computer tech issues. This may be something some of you already know but if not…..here is what I hope is a “Useful Tidbit”.

The site is called Geeks to Go and has a forum to ask and answer questions, how to guides, lots of info on spyware and viruses, and some well written tech reviews on everything from photo software to USB drives.

Geekstogo.com

Definitely worth bookmarking for the day when you will no doubt have a computer problem.

I have not tried this yet (but have talked to others who have), but apparently Google has a tool called Google Notebook that allows you to organize notes and clippings as you travel the web.

What I am accustomed to doing is if I see something on a site and I want to remember it for future reference, I bookmark it. Before long I have so many bookmarks, I feel like I have a file drawer that you can’t close anymore…..too many papers.

So this could be a very useful tool. I’ll let you know what I think, but don’t wait for me, go to www.google.com/notebook/ and give it a try.

 Women’s Self-Empowerment Week (Jan 1-7)

What better way to start the year than by celebrating Women’s Self-Empowerment Week, a week long observance that starts on January first. This is a time for women to reflect on and feel good about their accomplishments, role in society, as well as establish new goals for the future.

Although dedicated to women, this week is really meant to be celebrated by men and women.

Self-Empowerment by the shear explanation means to inspire women to have the courage to break free from the chains of limiting belief patterns and social or religious conditioning that have traditionally kept women suppressed and unable to see their true beauty and power.

So to 2009, I say to all of you and I hope that I can heed my own words…..go forth and be comfortable being you, you are beautiful, strong and the best person you can be. This year will bring even greater and more wonderful surprises about you.

 Wedding Tips On A Dime

These are going to be a simple list of things I used or attending weddings of other brides that have used these ideas.

  • To save money, going with a cupcake tower, which can be cheaper than a traditional wedding cake. (Everyone gets their favorite flavor of cupcake and it is good if you have children attending.

  • Go simple for the decorations. Stock up on dollar-store ornaments and display them in glass bowls.

  • Collect pine cones from outside and let them dry. Spray paint silver or gold and pile in jars or vases. Or use them as place-card holders for a dinner party.

  • Invitations: I had a friend who bought nice paper & printed her own on her computer if you have a program already for it.

  • You can add your own little pieces of ribbon tied in a tiny bow etc. to dress them up. (you can also add a little silver heart or some little item usually found in craft store for wedding items or even making jewelry

  • ON RSVP you can also put a phone number on it instead of buying stamps for all of them. (Let your answering machine pick up for them to leave a message, and write that on the RSVP.)

  • Scour places like Wholesale and Close-out places for good buys on designer soaps and candles.

  • Buy in bulk at Sam’s/Costco/Price Club and whatever idea you come up with for favors (Candles, soaps, packets of flower seeds) put them in cellophane bags with a bow.(inexpensive but practical, something your guest can use)

  • For the men in the party, including the groom; Wear black suits instead of tuxes.

  • With the above in mind, if they all don’t have black suits, you can have them wear khaki pants and black/blue jackets (look in Wal-Mart they are inexpensive and nice enough for one days wearing) They can either purchase their own or you can go halves with them (the husband is responsible for this item)

  • DJ yourself. Burn your reception music onto a CD to be played during the reception.

  • You can also use this music as a favor to your guest. Buy blank CD’s and make copies of your reception music put you and your husbands name and your wedding date. (another nice touch is to add a quote, phrase or something that is special to you and your husband) Wrap them in tulle (buy this in bolts-not by the yard) and a ribbon (get this from places like Dollar Tree or again in large quantities or closeouts)

  • Ask friends, relatives or neighbors for where they have gotten the best deal on things like flowers, candy, gifts etc. Sometimes they are better resources than going to places that advertise for Weddings etc. You will be paying for that advertising.

Frugal is fashionable, no longer a dirty word. And that applies to weddings, too, which can spike into the tens of thousands of dollars — leaving you feeling spent (pun intended) before you even get started.

Having recently been married myself, I speak from experience. When I was preparing for my wedding day (started in March and was married in September 2007) and not having a significant amount of time to do so, I had to pull out all the stops in order to have my wedding look like a million dollars on a meager couple of thousands.

So I scoured books, internet, friends and just about anything I could get my hands on and have come up with a few here.

I do have a confession to make though…..I spent more money on my wedding gown than I really wanted to but that is because we all know…….”it’s all about the Bride”.

     Internet for Free

Speaking of internet from the previous post.

If you are traveling, can’t or don’t have a laptop, are staying somewhere where there is no access to the internet, then I have an alternative for you.

THE LIBRARY. Yes, that’s right. Every city has one. It is free. You do not have to have a library card or anything except identification.

Read a Book or Read it Online

Read a Book or Read it Online

Using this method is the same as being at home or the office……you sit, you look, you print, you prepare; just about anything you want.

The only cost to you will be the amount they charge for prints; I have payed as little as $.02 to as high as $.05.

Yes, I have had to use this many, many times. It works, its cheap and you are not shelling out any extra money for internet service for a short period of time.
