Recently I was getting ready to take a trip out of the country and knew I would have to unfortunately do my work “On the Fly”. I asked my IT person what they suggested I look into for either free or a small fee for access my main computer from my laptop while traveling. His suggestion was quite simple, a website called “Log Me In”.

I did a “Free Trial” of the Pro version just to get a feel for it. I liked it and it seemed simple. Without any further questions, I signed up for a year $69.95. This worked out to around $5.85 a month. You can’t beat that for never forgetting a file, folder or email. The convenience versus the cost is a “win-win” situation.

When I signed up I was not sure of how to do file transfers, looking at my files, etc. so I called the technical support team, spoke to the gal there and she just simple had me log in with her and she walked me through my computer and laptop (she was on both with me showing me where, how and when to do what I needed to do).

I am so excited about this relatively cheap version of a server that I wanted to share with others who also may be needing this type of service but think they cannot afford it and more so than won’t be able to do it themselves. If I can do this, anyone can.

2009 brings about the daunting task and empty promises of getting organized in my office. Sounds oh too familiar right?

My list is long and my completion side is meager…..fix one area and create another problem somewhere else. When does it all get organized? I guess one thing at a time!

Here is a little bit of info; hope it helps.

How about the drawer that has the most cords you have ever seen. Ones for the MP3, digital camera, cell phone, etc. Well I am in that lets get organized mode so I start surfing (takes away some of the monotony of getting organized, a little trip down Internet Shopping Alley)
I found these plastic clamps that fit on the cords. Great. You get a set of 10 plastic clamps for About $3. Each one of these clamps come with a 2-inch flat surface providing space to jot down with a marking pen what each is for. WOW. I can do that.

Another group I have found and used are the color coded plastic cord ties. Just write what you are wrapping and storing. It also works for those cords attached to your computer and beyond. You know that scary space behind your desk……these were about $4 and you again write with a marker what you have attached it to. Pretty simple but effective.

Did that, done that and now one thing is checked off the list……shall I keep going. How about you?

The other day I was watched “On the Money” on CNBC with Carmen Ulrich and she had a guest on her show talking about credit card debt. The guest was, Mary Hunt the founder of DebtProofLiving.com.

I wanted to share a quote she uses about credit cards and their Information and Coverage pamphlets that we receive and generally throw away once we get our credit cards. Her quote is: “What Big Print Giveth, Small Print Taketh Away” The moral is; take a few minutes and read that fine print.

An example I had happen to me was; I was traveling in Mexico and used my credit card to make a purchase of a time share (I did not carry checks and that was my only means of payment). I did not know that international purchases are subject to a “Currency Conversion Fee”. It came at a price of $200.00 extra added to that purchase. All I had to do was read the “f i n e p r i n t ” and that would never have happened.

The start of a new year always gets me looking for ways to get organized for the coming year. It requires me to look online and I just found a site that looks like a keeper if you have computer tech issues. This may be something some of you already know but if not…..here is what I hope is a “Useful Tidbit”.

The site is called Geeks to Go and has a forum to ask and answer questions, how to guides, lots of info on spyware and viruses, and some well written tech reviews on everything from photo software to USB drives.

I have not tried this yet (but have talked to others who have), but apparently Google has a tool called Google Notebook that allows you to organize notes and clippings as you travel the web.

What I am accustomed to doing is if I see something on a site and I want to remember it for future reference, I bookmark it. Before long I have so many bookmarks, I feel like I have a file drawer that you can’t close anymore…..too many papers.
